Berkshire Hathaway
CEO · BRK-B
Greg Abel is Warren Buffett's successor as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway.
In January 2026, Abel took over as chief executive of Berkshire, which owns dozens of companies, including insurer Geico, battery maker Duracell and restaurant chain Dairy Queen.
Born in Canada, Abel was an accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers before joining an energy company that eventually became Berkshire Hathaway Energy.
He became Berkshire's vice chairman for all on-insurance operations, and joined the company's board, in 2018.
He owns less than 1% of Berkshire Hathaway's stock, but owes much of his fortune to selling his 1% stake in Berkshire Hathaway Energy to Berkshire for $870 million (pretax) in 2022.
